Getting into the Google local pack requires: a verified and complete Google Business Profile with correct categories, consistent NAP (name, address, phone) information across all online directories, regular review generation with recent reviews, weekly GBP posts and photos, and a website that establishes local authority for your specialty.
Google's local algorithm uses three primary factors: relevance (does this business match what the person searched for), distance (how far is the business from the searcher), and prominence (how well known is the business based on links, reviews, and information quality). You cannot control distance. You can control relevance and prominence.
Your primary GBP category is the most important relevance signal. For a med spa, "Medical Spa" is the right primary category. Adding secondary categories for specific services (Health Spa, Weight Loss Center, Skin Care Clinic) extends your relevance to more searches. Your business name and description should include relevant keywords naturally without keyword stuffing.
Prominence is built through review volume and recency on Google, mentions and links from other websites (local news, directories, partner practices), and consistency of your business information across all online platforms. Auditing your NAP consistency across Yelp, Healthgrades, Zocdoc, and other relevant directories removes conflicting signals that can suppress local rankings.
